Set on the fictitious island of Jinsy, a satirical counterpart to the island of Guernsey where the two writers are from, the show follows the activities of the two administrators of the island, Arbiter Maven (Justin Chubb) and Sporall Lertock (Chris Bran). The 791 residents of the island are all monitored by the 1067 tessellators that cover almost the entire place (except for slappers rock). But whilst you might put Jinsy off as backward for being ruled in such an Orwellian fashion by The Great He, you would miss its rich culture and many interesting an unique achievements. To name just a few, there is the wedding lottery, the Beardboy contest, and of course a rich musical tradition.
Many stars and well-known actors have appeared in this surreal comedy, such as Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous, French & Saunders), Janine Duvitski (Waiting for God, Benidorm), Nigel Planer (Filthy, Rich & Catflap), David Tennant (the Tenth Doctor Who), Olivia Colman (Peep Show, Twenty Twelve), Stephen Fry (Blackadder) and Steve Coogan (Saxondale).
